R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The University of Texas at Arlington Faculty Senate
  is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its founding with a special
  event on May 1, 2023; and
         WHEREAS, The UTA Faculty Senate convened for the first time
  on September 19, 1973, under the leadership of Dr. Charles
  McDowell, and within its first year of operation, members had
  developed an operational philosophy and established their bylaws,
  meeting framework, and committee structure; and
         WHEREAS, An elected body, the Faculty Senate reviews and
  formulates policies on all matters pertaining to the professional
  concerns, responsibilities, duties, standards, ethics, privileges,
  and perquisites of the UTA faculty, and it represents the faculty to
  the UTA administration, as well as to The University of Texas System
  and its board of regents; the senate serves as a place where faculty
  can resolve their differences through compromise and also acts as
  an advisory council to the school's president; over the years, the
  senate has successfully implemented a number of initiatives,
  including the Status of Women Committee, which advocated for equal
  pay for women, the Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher
  Education (COACHE) project, and a new faculty Academy of
  Distinguished Service Leaders; and
         WHEREAS, Today, the Faculty Senate benefits from the
  leadership of chair Jacqueline Fay and has expanded to include 73
  senators from 8 colleges and schools with proportional
  representation of both tenure-track and non-tenure-track faculty;
  and
         WHEREAS, For half a century, the UTA Faculty Senate has
  demonstrated an exceptional commitment to ensuring the vitality of
  the school's teaching and research mission, and it is indeed
  fitting to recognize its invaluable contributions to the campus
  community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of The
  University of Texas at Arlington Faculty Senate and extend to its
  members sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Faculty Senate as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
