R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The members of the boys' soccer team from Sharyland
  High School in Mission distinguished themselves by advancing all
  the way to the 5A semifinals of the 2023 University Interscholastic
  League Soccer State Championships; and
         WHEREAS, The only 5A team from the Rio Grande Valley to reach
  the state tournament in 2023, the Rattlers embarked on their
  journey by tying for first place in District 31-5A; Sharyland
  continued to excel in the playoffs, recording commanding wins over
  Brownsville Veterans Memorial, Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial,
  Brownsville Porter, and San Antonio Southwest High Schools; and
         WHEREAS, Sharyland faced Rouse High School in the regional
  finals and trailed 1-0 in the second half; retaining their
  composure, the Rattlers answered with two goals of their own and
  sealed the 2-1 outcome on the strength of their defense to qualify
  for the state tournament for the second time in program history; in
  the semifinals, the team squared off against El Paso Bel Air High
  School on April 13 at Birkelbach Field in Georgetown; the Sharyland
  players gave their all in a hard-fought game but ultimately saw
  their title quest come to an end, concluding with a total of 19 wins
  on the year; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout the season, the Rattlers received
  valuable contributions from each member of the roster: Jesus
  Juarez, Emiliano Martinez, Nicolas Trevino, Hugo Guerra, Fernando
  Ponce, Furkan Coban, Alan Guerrero, Gael Cantu, Iker Urueta, Juan
  Pablo Trevino, Luis Tellez, Carlos Lopez, Marco Ramos, Jorge
  Almaraz, Alexis Hernandez, Jose Sauceda, Edward Morales, David
  Rico, Allan Velazquez, Alessandro Garcia, Alan Rosales, Kevin
  Zepeda, Jose Sanchez, Gonzalo Gandaria, Javier Bernabe, Teodoro
  Montesinos, Alex Jarvis, Tomas Sauceda, Luis Chavez, and Juan
  O'Farrill; these determined student-athletes were ably guided by
  head coach Jorge Guerra and assistant coaches Gilberto Alanis,
  Marco Alanis, and Felipe Torres; and
         WHEREAS, Demonstrating exceptional talent and fierce
  determination, the Sharyland Rattlers turned in an unforgettable
  performance in 2022-2023, and their success is a source of great
  pride to their many community supporters; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Sharyland High School boys'
  soccer team on advancing to the 5A semifinals of the 2023 UIL state
  tournament and commend the team's players, coaches, and staff on a
  job well done; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Rattlers as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
