R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Univision hosted the dedication of a mural titled |
|
Una Carta de Amor, a Love Letter to Corpus Christi, Un Homenaje Al |
|
Mariachi! at its building at 102 Mesquite Street and Coopers Alley |
|
in Corpus Christi on April 27, 2023; and |
|
WHEREAS, Painted by local artist La Lisa Hernandez, the |
|
1,300-square-foot mural is dedicated to the memory of Walter |
|
F. Ulloa, Spanish-language media pioneer and visionary, who was |
|
born on August 14, 1948, and died on December 31, 2022; and |
|
WHEREAS, After starting his career at Univision's flagship |
|
television station in Los Angeles, Mr. Ulloa rose quickly in the |
|
business and launched Entravision; as chair and CEO, he built the |
|
company into a global media and digital marketing company with over |
|
50 television stations, nearly 50 radio stations, and more than |
|
4,500 technology and consumer brand clients; it is the largest |
|
independent broadcaster of Univision-affiliated stations in the |
|
United States; and |
|
WHEREAS, Committed to empowering Latinos, Mr. Ulloa worked |
|
tirelessly to ensure that members of the community could see |
|
themselves reflected in the media; moreover, he was a mentor to |
|
countless people in the industry; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Ulloa was also a passionate collector of Chicano |
|
and Mexican art, and as a patron of individual artists, he strove to |
|
raise awareness of their creativity and expand their cultural |
|
influence; it is indeed fitting that Univision should honor the |
|
memory of this visionary trailblazer by investing in public art |
|
that will be a source of inspiration for years to come; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the dedication of the mural Una |
|
Carta de Amor, a Love Letter to Corpus Christi, Un Homenaje Al |
|
Mariachi! at the Univision building in Corpus Christi and commend |
|
all those involved in this outstanding project. |
