R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, César Sevilla Jr., a third-year student at The |
|
University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine, has been |
|
named the recipient of the 2023 U.S. Public Health Service |
|
Excellence in Public Health Award; and |
|
WHEREAS, This prestigious honor is awarded to visionary |
|
medical students who are advancing initiatives to improve public |
|
health and address public health issues in their communities; UTRGV |
|
nominated Mr. Sevilla for the accolade based on his extensive |
|
efforts to meet the goals of the Healthy People 2030 initiative |
|
established by the U.S. Public Health Service; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Sevilla brings a unique perspective to the |
|
practice of medicine, having worked as a personal trainer for more |
|
than a decade before applying to medical school; motivated by his |
|
desire to help integrate physical fitness into the world of |
|
academic medicine, he has hosted a number of events at local schools |
|
to promote health, nutrition, and fitness education, and he is also |
|
involved with UTRGV's efforts to introduce health education at the |
|
grassroots level through the school's Area Health Education |
|
Centers, as well as local clinics and community partners; and |
|
WHEREAS, In addition to these endeavors, Mr. Sevilla has |
|
worked with Ronald McDonald Houses, the American Diabetes |
|
Association, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer |
|
Society, and clinics and hospitals, and he shares his knowledge of |
|
exercise routines that can be done without special equipment, |
|
making them more available to those that may not have access to |
|
fitness gyms; he is also the founder and chair of the Orthopaedic |
|
Surgery Interest Group, which provides information, networking |
|
opportunities, and workshops for students who are interested in |
|
pursuing a career in orthopaedic surgery; and |
|
WHEREAS, César Sevilla Jr. has distinguished himself as an |
|
ambitious and accomplished student leader and a role model to his |
|
peers at UTRGV, and his efforts have placed him at the threshold of |
|
a promising career in his field of study; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate César Sevilla Jr. on his receipt of |
|
the 2023 U.S. Public Health Service Excellence in Public Health |
|
Award and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Sevilla as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
