R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, César Sevilla Jr., a third-year student at The
  University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine, has been
  named the recipient of the 2023 U.S. Public Health Service
  Excellence in Public Health Award; and
         WHEREAS, This prestigious honor is awarded to visionary
  medical students who are advancing initiatives to improve public
  health and address public health issues in their communities; UTRGV
  nominated Mr. Sevilla for the accolade based on his extensive
  efforts to meet the goals of the Healthy People 2030 initiative
  established by the U.S. Public Health Service; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Sevilla brings a unique perspective to the
  practice of medicine, having worked as a personal trainer for more
  than a decade before applying to medical school; motivated by his
  desire to help integrate physical fitness into the world of
  academic medicine, he has hosted a number of events at local schools
  to promote health, nutrition, and fitness education, and he is also
  involved with UTRGV's efforts to introduce health education at the
  grassroots level through the school's Area Health Education
  Centers, as well as local clinics and community partners; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to these endeavors, Mr. Sevilla has
  worked with Ronald McDonald Houses, the American Diabetes
  Association, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer
  Society, and clinics and hospitals, and he shares his knowledge of
  exercise routines that can be done without special equipment,
  making them more available to those that may not have access to
  fitness gyms; he is also the founder and chair of the Orthopaedic
  Surgery Interest Group, which provides information, networking
  opportunities, and workshops for students who are interested in
  pursuing a career in orthopaedic surgery; and
         WHEREAS, César Sevilla Jr. has distinguished himself as an
  ambitious and accomplished student leader and a role model to his
  peers at UTRGV, and his efforts have placed him at the threshold of
  a promising career in his field of study; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate César Sevilla Jr. on his receipt of
  the 2023 U.S. Public Health Service Excellence in Public Health
  Award and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Sevilla as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
