R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The release of the 2023 film Sweetwater provides a |
|
fitting opportunity to recognize one of its stars, University of |
|
Texas Rio Grande Valley alum Everett Osborne, who plays |
|
trailblazing professional basketball player Nat Clifton; and |
|
WHEREAS, Written and directed by Martin Guigui, the biopic |
|
tells the story of Nat "Sweetwater" Clifton and his journey from |
|
playing for the Harlem Globetrotters to becoming one of the first |
|
Black players to join the NBA when he signed a contract with the New |
|
York Knicks in 1950; Mr. Osborne is joined in the cast by Cary |
|
Elwes, Jeremy Piven, Kevin Pollak, Richard Dreyfuss, Jim Caviezel, |
|
Emmaline, Eric Roberts, guitarist Gary Clark Jr., and Milwaukee |
|
Bucks power forward Bobby Portis Jr.; and |
|
WHEREAS, A Los Angeles native, Mr. Osborne was a member of |
|
the Vaqueros hoops squad for two seasons, averaging 4.7 points over |
|
the course of 60 games; after graduating from UTRGV with a degree in |
|
psychology in 2016, he went on to play professionally in Australia |
|
and to compete in New Zealand with Athletes in Action against local |
|
universities, clubs, and the New Zealand Breakers Development Team; |
|
he began acting at the age of four and has been featured on episodes |
|
of Tyler Perry's Sistas on BET and Chicago Fire on NBC; moreover, he |
|
is the founder of the clothing line Brand Evolving; and |
|
WHEREAS, Everett Osborne has achieved great distinction on |
|
the hardwood and the silver screen, and it is a testament to his |
|
talent and dedication that he was selected to depict such a |
|
legendary figure in sports history; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Everett Osborne on his starring |
|
role in the film Sweetwater and extend to him sincere best wishes |
|
for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Osborne as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
