R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Keith Smith is retiring as superintendent of the
  Madisonville Consolidated Independent School District on
  June 30, 2023, drawing to a close an outstanding tenure with the
  district that has spanned more than three decades; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Smith began his career as a high school teacher
  and coach with the district in 1991; over the years, he has served
  in a variety of administrative roles, including as assistant
  principal and principal at Madisonville Junior High School and as
  principal of Madisonville High School, and he has further benefited
  the district as a golf coach and as federal funds coordinator; and
         WHEREAS, Since being appointed superintendent in 2007,
  Mr. Smith has provided exemplary leadership to the district's four
  schools; under his direction, Madisonville CISD earned an A
  accountability rating from the Texas Education Agency and a
  financial accountability rating of superior; he has also been
  integral to building a safe and welcoming learning environment and
  crafting and implementing a comprehensive strategic plan focusing
  on short-term and long-term measures; and
         WHEREAS, A leader in his field, Mr. Smith has served as a
  superintendent mentor and as a member of the Texas Association of
  School Administrators, Texas Association of School Boards, Region 6
  Education Service Center executive committee, and TEA
  Commissioner's Cabinet, among other professional organizations; he
  is the recipient of an Honorary Lone Star Degree from the Texas FFA
  Association, and in 2021, he was selected as the Region 6 ESC
  Superintendent of the Year; and
         WHEREAS, A resident of Madison County for 32 years, Mr. Smith
  holds degrees from Texas A&M University and Sam Houston State
  University; active in his community, he is a congregant of First
  Methodist Church Madisonville and a member of the Madisonville
  Economic Council and Bedias Masonic Lodge No. 651; in all his
  endeavors, he enjoys the love and support of his wife of 27 years,
  Laney, and their two daughters; and
         WHEREAS, Through his dedication, professionalism, and
  commitment to excellence, Keith Smith has helped many young Texans
  acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed, and his
  contributions will be remembered and appreciated for years to come;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Keith Smith on his retirement as
  superintendent of the Madisonville Consolidated Independent School
  District and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Smith as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
