R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The strength and cohesion of our communities are
  enhanced by the devoted efforts of individuals such as Dr. Laura
  Murillo, whose professional and civic contributions have made a
  positive and lasting difference in the Houston area and beyond; and
         WHEREAS, The daughter of Mexican immigrants, Dr. Murillo was
  raised in Houston and attended the University of Houston, where she
  earned a bachelor's degree, master's degree, and doctorate; she
  started her career in student services at the university, earned a
  promotion to director of the Urban Experience Program, and went on
  to serve as senior executive director at Memorial Hermann-Texas
  Medical Center; and
         WHEREAS, In 2007, Dr. Murillo assumed her current role as
  president and CEO of the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and
  in the course of her more than 15 years at the helm, the
  organization has become one of the largest Hispanic chambers in the
  country and has received the National and Regional Large Hispanic
  Chamber of the Year Awards from the United States Hispanic Chamber
  of Commerce; she also serves as the founding president and CEO of
  the chamber's foundation and as a host for the chamber's radio and
  television programs; moreover, she is a frequent political
  commentator on Telemundo, and she wrote a bestselling book, Lead in
  Life; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Murillo has been active in a range of
  initiatives and organizations, serving on the City of Houston
  Mayor's Hispanic Advisory Board and holding leadership roles with
  the University of Houston, The University of Texas MD Anderson
  Cancer Center, and Hispanic Women in Leadership; in recognition of
  her endeavors, she has received such prestigious accolades as the
  UH President's Medallion, the Ohtli Award from the Mexican
  government, and the Top Latino Leader Award from the National
  Diversity Council; she is the mother of two daughters, Marisa and
  Mia; and
         WHEREAS, Laura Murillo has proven herself a business and
  civic leader of great vision and ability, and she may reflect with
  pride on her successful efforts to make Houston an even better place
  for all; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Dr. Laura Murillo for her contributions
  to the Houston community and extend to her sincere best wishes for
  the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Murillo as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
