R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Jimmy Perdue is retiring as chief of police and |
|
director of public safety for the City of North Richland Hills in |
|
May 2023, concluding an exemplary career in public service that has |
|
spanned more than four decades; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Perdue joined the Irving Police Department in |
|
1982, and in the ensuing years, he advanced through the ranks to |
|
become the department's assistant police chief; in July 2005, he |
|
was appointed as chief of police for North Richland Hills, and after |
|
three years, he was named the city's director of public safety, with |
|
responsibility for overseeing its police and fire departments, |
|
facilities, and fleet; and |
|
WHEREAS, During Chief Perdue's tenure, the North Richland |
|
Hills Police Department first attained Recognized status from the |
|
Texas Police Chiefs Association Foundation's Best Practices |
|
Recognition Program in 2011, and it has continuously maintained |
|
that status for over a decade; during 2011, Chief Perdue also |
|
implemented a shared services agreement with the neighboring |
|
communities of Haltom City, Richland Hills, and Watauga for |
|
dispatching and jail services, which has saved each city hundreds |
|
of thousands of dollars annually in operational costs; and |
|
WHEREAS, Chief Perdue has gone above and beyond to develop |
|
programs and initiatives that have greatly enhanced public safety |
|
in the community; these have included the Volunteers in Public |
|
Service program, which allows trained citizen volunteers to assist |
|
police with non-enforcement duties, and the SHIELD program, which |
|
encourages department employees to focus on Service, Honor, |
|
Integrity, Ethics, and De-escalation; in 2013, Chief Perdue |
|
initiated the establishment of the Women of Law Enforcement |
|
Conference, which has since grown from 110 to more than 500 |
|
attendees; and |
|
WHEREAS, A graduate of the FBI National Academy, Chief Perdue |
|
holds a bachelor's degree from Dallas Baptist University and a |
|
master's degree in criminal justice from the University of North |
|
Texas; in 2022, he was elected as president of the Texas Police |
|
Chiefs Association, and he previously served as president of the |
|
North Texas Police Chiefs Association; and |
|
WHEREAS, Chief Jimmy Perdue has greatly benefited the |
|
citizens of North Richland Hills through his leadership, vision, |
|
and deep commitment to public safety, and he may indeed reflect with |
|
pride on a career well spent as he embarks on the next exciting |
|
chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Jimmy Perdue on his retirement as |
|
chief of police and director of public safety for the City of North |
|
Richland Hills and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Chief Perdue as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
