R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, All who shared in the life of Sam F. Cartwright Jr. |
|
of Dumas were deeply saddened by his passing on October 10, 2022, at |
|
the age of 77; and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of Daisy Cartwright and Sam Cartwright Sr., |
|
Sam Cartwright was born in Haskell on October 30, 1944, and he grew |
|
up with the companionship of a sister, Karen; in 1962, he graduated |
|
from McAlester High School, where he ran track and was a member of |
|
the speech and debate team at Boys State; he went on to graduate |
|
from East Central University in Oklahoma and was a charter member of |
|
the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity's Epsilon Omega chapter; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Cartwright served on the city council in |
|
Chickasha, Oklahoma, in the 1970s before embarking on a 40-year |
|
career as a chamber of commerce and economic development |
|
professional; he taught at the University of Oklahoma Economic |
|
Development Institute for a time, and in 1985, he was named the |
|
Oklahoma Chamber Executive of the Year; in December 2002, he became |
|
the president/CEO of the Dumas/Moore County Chamber of Commerce, a |
|
position he held until his retirement in 2017; over the course of |
|
his tenure with the chamber, he actively promoted tourism and |
|
growth in the community and distinguished himself through his |
|
tireless support of Moore County and its residents; in addition, he |
|
was a dedicated member of the Dumas Noon Lions Club and served as |
|
head wrangler for the 2017 Dogie Days celebration; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Cartwright enjoyed the |
|
love and support of his wife, Dianna, with whom he shared 54 |
|
rewarding years of marriage; he took great pride in his son, John, |
|
and he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to include a |
|
granddaughter, Daryl; and |
|
WHEREAS, Sam Cartwright lived a life that was rich in family, |
|
friends, and community service, and those who were privileged to |
|
share in his love and affection will forever hold him close in their |
|
hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Sam F. Cartwright Jr. |
|
and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his |
|
wife, Dianna Cartwright; to his son, John Cartwright; to his |
|
granddaughter, Daryl Cartwright; and to his other relatives and |
|
friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Sam |
|
Cartwright. |
