R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Debate students from Panhandle High School have |
|
|
distinguished themselves through their participation in the 2023 |
|
|
University Interscholastic League 2A Cross-Examination Debate |
|
|
State Meet; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Guided by their sponsor, Sheryl Oliver, the |
|
|
Panhandle debate team of Kelby Olsen and Andrew Menefee received |
|
|
the gold medal and the team of McCade Smith and Gemma Garrett |
|
|
received the silver in the UIL district contest; advancing to |
|
|
state, the Panhandle students faced off against other top debate |
|
|
students from across Texas at The University of Texas at Austin on |
|
|
March 13 and 14, 2023; during the competition, Mr. Olsen and |
|
|
Mr. Menefee won four rounds in the preliminaries before earning |
|
|
bronze medals in the semifinals; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, By taking part in the Cross-Examination Debate State |
|
|
Meet, these bright young Texans have ably represented their school |
|
|
and community, and the dedication they have demonstrated is sure to |
|
|
serve them well in the years ahead; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commend Kelby Olsen, Andrew Menefee, McCade |
|
|
Smith, and Gemma Garrett on their performance in the UIL 2A |
|
|
Cross-Examination Debate State Meet and extend to them sincere best |
|
|
wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared |
|
|
for the students as an expression of high regard by the Texas House |
|
|
of Representatives. |
