R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The boys' wrestling team from Tascosa High School in
  Amarillo proved itself one of the best in Texas by winning the 5A
  championship at the 2023 University Interscholastic League
  Wrestling State Tournament; and
         WHEREAS, On February 17 and 18, the Rebels joined the other
  top high school teams at the state meet in Cypress; turning in an
  exceptional performance, the Tascosa wrestlers posted a total team
  score of 112 points, outdistancing runner-up Lucas Lovejoy High
  School by three points to claim the title; the victory was an
  important milestone in the history of the Rebel wrestling program,
  providing the boys' team with its inaugural UIL state championship;
  and
         WHEREAS, Tascosa was led by gold medalist Andres Suarez, who
  clinched the crown in the 165-pound weight class, and by silver
  medalists Landin Lamberth at 157 pounds and Noah Santiago at 144
  pounds; additionally, Thomas Pacheco and Ethan Sims secured bronze
  medals in their respective 132-pound and 113-pound divisions; the
  Rebels were also represented at state by Kaden Ford, Anthony Smith,
  and Jaxon Johnson; and
         WHEREAS, These talented student-athletes benefit from the
  strong leadership of head coach Joe Stafford and his staff; now in
  his 15th year at Tascosa High, Coach Stafford was honored during the
  2022-2023 season as the Region I-5A Coach of the Year; furthermore,
  Rebels assistant coach Nick Herrmann was named the regional
  Assistant Coach of the Year; and
         WHEREAS, The Tascosa High Rebels demonstrated admirable
  skill and determination in winning the state championship, and
  memories of this exemplary accomplishment will resonate with their
  fellow students and their many supporters in the local community
  for years to come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Tascosa High School boys'
  wrestling team on winning the 5A championship at the 2023 UIL
  Wrestling State Tournament and extend to the athletes, coaches, and
  staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Rebels as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
