R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Proud residents of Yorktown are celebrating the
  175th anniversary of their community's founding on June 17, 2023;
  and
         WHEREAS, Located in DeWitt County approximately 75 miles east
  of San Antonio, Yorktown was established in 1848 by Charles
  Eckhardt and Captain John York, who planned a trading post and a
  shorter route from Indianola to San Antonio; in 1854, the town was
  chartered, and it was incorporated in 1871; in 1886, the Aransas
  Pass Railway was built a mile south of the community; the town
  prospered, and by 1898, it boasted more than 50 businesses and
  nearly 850 residents; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of the 20th century, the population
  of Yorktown grew to more than 2,500, and the local economy was
  supported by some 150 businesses, including an oilfield equipment
  factory; for many years, the Yorktown Fair Association sponsored
  the Little World's Fair; and
         WHEREAS, Today, Yorktown is a picturesque community, and
  residents and visitors alike can appreciate the historic buildings
  along Main Street, including the Yorktown Historical Museum, as
  well as such beloved traditions as the annual Western Days
  festival; and
         WHEREAS, The citizens of Yorktown may indeed take great pride
  in their rich heritage as they come together to celebrate this
  significant milestone in their history; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 175th anniversary of Yorktown
  and extend to the community's residents sincere best wishes for the
  future.
