R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Texas Legislative Black Caucus, an organization |
|
of African American lawmakers dedicated to advocating for the needs |
|
and interests of their constituents, is celebrating the 50th |
|
anniversary of its founding in 2023; and |
|
WHEREAS, The caucus was formed in 1973 with eight founding |
|
members, Representatives Anthony Hall, Mickey Leland, Senfronia |
|
Thompson, and Craig Washington of Houston, Representatives Sam |
|
Hudson, Eddie Bernice Johnson, and Paul Ragsdale of Dallas, and |
|
Representative G. J. Sutton of San Antonio; since its inception, |
|
the organization has remained committed to implementing policies |
|
that provide communities with resources for economic growth and to |
|
serving as a liaison between politicians and constituents; and |
|
WHEREAS, Today, the Texas Legislative Black Caucus is |
|
composed of 18 members of the Texas House of Representatives and two |
|
members of the Texas Senate; under the leadership of Representative |
|
Ron Reynolds of Missouri City during the 88th Legislative Session, |
|
the men and women of the organization continue to work to promote |
|
dialogue on issues of concern to their communities and to pass |
|
legislation that reflects the priorities of the Texans they serve; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the last five decades, the members of the Texas |
|
Legislative Black Caucus, past and present, have demonstrated the |
|
strength that can be achieved through collective action, and it is a |
|
privilege to join in congratulating the organization on reaching |
|
this special milestone; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor the Texas Legislative Black Caucus on the |
|
occasion of its 50th anniversary and extend to its members sincere |
|
best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
