R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Becky Moeller of Corpus Christi was inducted into
  the Texas Labor Hall of Fame on January 20, 2022; and
         WHEREAS, The first woman to hold statewide elected office in
  the Texas AFL-CIO, Ms. Moeller became secretary-treasurer in 2003
  and president in 2007; during her tenure in leading the state
  organization, she was instrumental in the advancement of
  get-out-the-vote efforts, which contributed to the success of
  candidates supportive of the labor movement; she also worked
  tirelessly in behalf of issues vital to members, including equal
  pay for equal work, the $15-per-hour minimum wage, expanded health
  care access, workplace benefits for same-sex couples, immigration
  reform, and fair trade; moreover, she emphasized leadership
  development, strengthened the relationship between the Texas and
  national AFL-CIO organizations, and raised awareness of the need to
  intensify organizing across the South; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Moeller began her involvement in the labor
  movement in 1967, while working in sales for Southwestern Bell;
  discovering a huge gender disparity in pay, she joined with other
  women in her office to fight for fair treatment; she became
  president of Communications Workers of America Local 6137 and
  eventually rose to become its vice president and
  secretary-treasurer; in addition, she was president of the Coastal
  Bend Labor Council; since her retirement in 2015, she has remained
  active as a voice for labor; and
         WHEREAS, Benefiting the wider community, Ms. Moeller has
  served on the local United Way board of governors and the Corpus
  Christi Workforce Development Board; she was appointed chair of the
  commission overseeing the Texas Department of Licensing and
  Regulation by Governor Ann Richards in 1992 and held that post until
  1995; and
         WHEREAS, A trailblazer and a tireless champion of Texas
  workers, Becky Moeller made a positive impact in countless lives
  through her vision, leadership, and dedication, and she is indeed
  deserving of this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Becky Moeller on her induction into
  the Texas Labor Hall of Fame and extend to her sincere best wishes
  for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Moeller as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
