R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Jessica Bonilla of Irving has earned great |
|
|
distinction by winning the 2023 Big Tex Boot Design Contest hosted |
|
|
by the State Fair of Texas; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, An icon of the State Fair of Texas, the Big Tex |
|
|
statue measures 55 feet tall and is outfitted with size 96 cowboy |
|
|
boots that span more than 10 feet in length and weigh some 900 |
|
|
pounds; over the years, the massive boots have featured artwork by a |
|
|
number of different Texas artists, and Ms. Bonilla has been |
|
|
selected from among more than 300 entrants to update the design; she |
|
|
will work closely with the Texas State Fair and designers from |
|
|
Lucchese Bootmaker to paint her artwork onto Big Tex; her winning |
|
|
design depicts native plants and animals in a Texas canyon at |
|
|
sunset; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Bonilla is a licensed social worker, and she |
|
|
holds degrees from the University of North Texas and The University |
|
|
of Texas at Arlington; a gifted artist, she has displayed her work |
|
|
at pop-up markets throughout North Texas; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, With her success in the Big Tex Boot Design Contest, |
|
|
Jessica Bonilla has demonstrated great talent and dedication in the |
|
|
pursuit of her goals, and she may take justifiable pride in this |
|
|
notable achievement; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Jessica Bonilla on winning the 2023 |
|
|
Big Tex Boot Design Contest and extend to her sincere best wishes |
|
|
for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Bonilla as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
