R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
  passing of Mary Alice Martin on May 16, 2023, at the age of 99; and
         WHEREAS, The former Mary Alice Michal was born on July 10,
  1923; she spent part of her childhood on her family's farm near
  Flatonia but was raised mostly in Zimmerman, Louisiana; she
  graduated from Boyce High School; and
         WHEREAS, On April 17, 1948, this beloved woman exchanged
  wedding vows with Edward Doyle Martin, and they shared a rewarding
  marriage that spanned six and a half decades before Mr. Martin's
  death in 2013; as newlyweds, the couple moved to Orange and then to
  Houston; they became the proud parents of four children, Larry,
  Edward, Joyce, and Terry, and Mrs. Martin later experienced the joy
  of seeing her family grow to include four grandchildren and four
  great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Martin devoted many years to teaching and
  caring for her children as well as her parents, who also lived in
  Houston; she was blessed with a wide circle of friends, and she was
  a valued congregant of Baptist Temple Church and Oak Forest Baptist
  Church; and
         WHEREAS, Possessed of a warm and generous nature and a joyous
  zest for life, Mary Alice Martin brightened the world for all who
  knew her, and they will forever hold her close in their hearts; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Mary Alice Martin
  and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her
  children, Edward Martin and his wife, Patsy, Joyce McMillan and her
  husband, Robert, and Terry Martin; to her grandchildren, Leah,
  Bobby, Phillip, and Amy; to her great-grandchildren, Ian, Gracie,
  Aton, and Everly; to her nieces and nephews; to her close friend,
  Lezlie Shell; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mary Alice
  Martin.
