A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the designation of polling place locations on the |
|
|
campuses of certain institutions of higher education. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 43, Election Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 43.008 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 43.008. CAMPUS POLLING PLACE. (a) In this section, |
|
|
"institution of higher education" has the meaning assigned by |
|
|
Section 61.003, Education Code. |
|
|
(b) The commissioners court of a county shall designate as a |
|
|
polling place a location on the main campus of an institution of |
|
|
higher education located within the county if at least 5,000 |
|
|
students are enrolled in the institution. |
|
|
(c) The commissioners court of a county shall designate two |
|
|
polling places on the main campus of an institution of higher |
|
|
education if at least 10,000 students are enrolled in the |
|
|
institution, and shall designate one additional polling place for |
|
|
every additional 10,000 students enrolled in the institution. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
