A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to the deadline for hiring or rejecting applicants for |
|
state job vacancies. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Chapter 651, Government Code, is amended by |
|
adding Section 651.011 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 651.011. DEADLINE TO HIRE OR REJECT APPLICANT. (a) In |
|
this section, "state agency" means a board, commission, department, |
|
office, or other agency in the executive branch of state government |
|
created under the constitution or a statute of this state, |
|
including an institution of higher education as defined by Section |
|
61.003, Education Code. |
|
(b) This section does not apply to a vacancy in a state |
|
office that is to be filled by appointment by the governor. |
|
(c) Except as provided by Subsection (d), not later than the |
|
30th day after the date a state agency receives an application for a |
|
job vacancy, the state agency shall: |
|
(1) review the application and either offer employment |
|
to or reject the applicant; and |
|
(2) notify the applicant of the state agency's |
|
decision. |
|
(d) If a state agency receives an incomplete application, |
|
the state agency shall notify the applicant that the application is |
|
incomplete as soon as practicable after the agency determines that |
|
the application is incomplete. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
