A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the extension of a driver's license suspension or
  disqualification following certain convictions.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 521.343(c), Transportation Code, is
  amended to read as follows:
         (c)  If the license holder is convicted of operating a motor
  vehicle while the license to operate a motor vehicle is cancelled,
  disqualified, suspended, revoked, or denied, the period is extended
  for 90 days [the same term as the original suspension or
  disqualification], in addition to any penalty assessed under this
  chapter or Chapter 522.
         SECTION 2.  The change in law made by this Act applies only
  to a determination of suspension or disqualification made by the
  Department of Public Safety on or after the effective date of this
  Act. A determination made before the effective date of this Act is
  governed by the law in effect when the determination was made, and
  the former law is continued in effect for that purpose.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
