SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, The City of Dallas unveiled signs with Korean |
|
translations in the Royal Lane and Harry Hines Boulevard |
|
neighborhood on January 13, 2023, providing well-deserved |
|
recognition for the area popularly known as Koreatown; and |
|
WHEREAS, January 13 is annually celebrated as Korean American |
|
Day to commemorate the arrival of the first Korean immigrants to the |
|
United States on January 13, 1903; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Greater Dallas Korean American Chamber of |
|
Commerce, established in 1976, has been a crucial advocate for the |
|
Korean American community in Dallas; and |
|
WHEREAS, About 40 years ago, Korean Texans living in the |
|
Royal Lane and Harry Hines Boulevard neighborhood started to build |
|
businesses, and the Korean commercial district was formed; since |
|
then, the area has been transformed into a vibrant Korean wholesale |
|
and retail center; and |
|
WHEREAS, Royal Lane is a showcase of Korean culture, and a |
|
prosperous Koreatown will be a continuing source of pride for those |
|
who live and work in the area and for all Texans; and |
|
WHEREAS, The designation of Koreatown by the Texas |
|
Legislature provides well-deserved recognition for one of the |
|
largest Korean American communities in the southern United States |
|
and acknowledges the important contributions of the Korean |
|
community, not only to the City of Dallas but to the entire State of |
|
Texas; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the 88th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
hereby designate the area from the intersection of Royal Lane and |
|
Harry Hines Boulevard to the intersection of Royal Lane and Luna |
|
Road in Dallas as Koreatown Dallas; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section |
|
391.003(e), Government Code, this designation remain in effect |
|
until the 10th anniversary of the date this resolution is finally |
|
passed by the legislature. |
