R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life has drawn to a close with |
|
the passing of Ellis Lloyd Olmstead of Sherman on September 2, 2022, |
|
at the age of 87; and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of Erling and Edna Olmstead, Ellis Olmstead |
|
was born in Galveston on April 3, 1935, and he grew up with a sister, |
|
Erlyn; after graduating from Ball High School in 1953, he attended |
|
The University of Texas, where, at 6'10" tall, he was a valued |
|
member of the Longhorns basketball team, playing throughout all |
|
four years of college; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1957, Mr. Olmstead earned his bachelor's degree |
|
from UT and married the former Patti Le Chapman, and the couple went |
|
on to share 65 years together; after living briefly in Dallas, they |
|
settled in Sherman, where Mr. Olmstead went to work for his |
|
father-in-law at Chapman, Inc., a wholesale gasoline |
|
distributorship; over the course of a career that spanned six |
|
decades, he served as president of the Texas Oil Marketers and the |
|
National Oil Jobbers Council; and |
|
WHEREAS, A leader in his community, Mr. Olmstead served as |
|
president of the Sherman Chamber of Commerce and as chair of the |
|
Grayson County Airport Board, and he sat on the boards of Austin |
|
College and Wilson N. Jones Hospital; he was named Sherman |
|
Outstanding Citizen in 1988, and in 2008, he received the Emmett |
|
Essin Community Service Award; an avid pilot for more than 40 years, |
|
he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and ranching; moreover, he was an |
|
elder at Central Christian Church; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although Ellis Olmstead will be deeply missed, this |
|
beloved man has left his family and friends with many cherished |
|
memories, and he will forever hold a special place in their hearts; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature |
|
hereby pay tribute to the life of Ellis Lloyd Olmstead and extend |
|
sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Patti |
|
Olmstead; to his children, Kay Ellen Kirby and her husband, Kevin, |
|
Lee Olmstead and his wife, Julie, and Andy Olmstead and his wife, |
|
Stacey; to his grandchildren, Emily and Lauren Kirby, Michal |
|
Overturf, and Clayton, Claire, and Brett Olmstead; to his |
|
great-granddaughter, Margot Overturf; and to his many other |
|
relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this |
|
day, it do so in memory of Ellis Lloyd Olmstead. |
