SENATE RESOLUTION
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Dr. Marcelo Cavazos, who is retiring as the |
|
|
superintendent of schools of the Arlington Independent School |
|
|
District on August 31, 2023, after a distinguished 33-year career |
|
|
in public education; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Marcelo Cavazos joined the Arlington |
|
|
Independent School District in 1999 as an associate |
|
|
superintendent for instruction, and he served as the interim |
|
|
deputy superintendent before being named deputy superintendent |
|
|
in 2009; he served the district with distinction, and in 2012, he |
|
|
was named superintendent of the Arlington Independent School |
|
|
District; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Under his leadership, the district developed 13 |
|
|
specialized academies focused on the areas of leadership |
|
|
development, early college education, fine arts, dual-language |
|
|
instruction, and curricula in science, technology, engineering, |
|
|
and math; Dr. Cavazos has received many accolades for his |
|
|
outstanding work throughout his career, and he received the YMCA |
|
|
Citizen of the Year Award and he was named the 2016 Texas |
|
|
Superintendent of the Year and was selected as the Texas nominee |
|
|
for the 2017 American Association of School Administrators |
|
|
Superintendent of the Year Award; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Cavazos has also been recognized for his |
|
|
service to his community, in 2012; he has served on the boards of |
|
|
numerous agencies and organizations, including the Texas School |
|
|
Alliance, Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County, and United Way |
|
|
of Tarrant County, and he is involved in his community through |
|
|
his membership in such groups as the Rotary Club and Lions Club; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A devoted husband to his wife, Nora, and a loving |
|
|
father to his children, Theresa and Diego, Dr. Cavazos has earned |
|
|
the respect and admiration of his community members, his |
|
|
colleagues, and the students and parents of the district for his |
|
|
diligence and wise leadership as an administrator and for his |
|
|
outstanding commitment to excellence in education; it is truly |
|
|
fitting that he receive special recognition on his dedicated |
|
|
service to the Arlington Independent School District; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Marcelo Cavazos on his |
|
|
invaluable contributions to public education in the state and |
|
|
extend to him congratulations on his retirement and best wishes |
|
|
for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
