SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 232
|
|
WHEREAS, The Gunter High School volleyball team proved |
|
itself one of the finest in Texas by winning the 2022 University |
|
Interscholastic League 3A state championship; and |
|
WHEREAS, Following an impressive performance during the |
|
regular season, the Tigers continued to excel in the playoffs, |
|
dispatching Prairiland, Ponder, Edgewood, Tatum, and Rains High |
|
Schools to reach the state tournament for the third consecutive |
|
year; in the semifinals, Gunter easily beat Columbus High School |
|
in straight sets to punch its ticket to the November 19 state |
|
finale; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Tigers battled for the crown against |
|
defending state champion Bushland High School in a rematch of the |
|
2021 title contest; Gunter took the first set 29-27 in a |
|
hard-fought game and then went on to claim the next two sets by |
|
the scores of 25-23 and 25-20 to sweep the match and capture the |
|
title; the triumph gave Gunter its first volleyball state |
|
championship and capped off an outstanding year in which the |
|
squad compiled an overall record of 43 wins and just 6 losses; and |
|
WHEREAS, Rayanna Mauldin was named the Most Valuable |
|
Player of the championship match, and Miranda Putnicki and Briley |
|
Singleton joined her on the 3A All-Tournament Team; the Tigers |
|
also received significant contributions throughout the season |
|
from the other members of the roster: Chloe Johnson, Adilynn |
|
Henry, Abby Elmore, Berkeley Caple, Brelee Mauldin, Aubrey |
|
Walton, Makena Fady, Hanna Rubis, Aubrey Burchfield, Elle |
|
Whitteker, and Madison Smith; these determined student-athletes |
|
were guided by head coach Katelyn Gill and assistant coaches |
|
Mikayla Watson, Leigh Vickery, and Vince Morgan; the team also |
|
received enthusiastic support from athletic trainer Ryan Barham |
|
and manager Ryane Spurgin; and |
|
WHEREAS, Winning a state championship represents the |
|
culmination of countless hours of hard work and an unwavering |
|
commitment to excellence, and the members of the Tigers |
|
volleyball team will treasure the memory of this accomplishment |
|
for the rest of their lives; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|
Legislature, hereby congratulate the Gunter High School |
|
volleyball team on winning the 2022 UIL 3A state championship and |
|
extend to the players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for |
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard from the |
|
Texas Senate. |
