James Flanagin |
|
|
WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with |
|
the passing of James Dois Flanagin of Weatherford on |
|
November 24, 2022, at the age of 65; and |
|
WHEREAS, The only child of Paul and Octavia Flanagin, Jay |
|
Flanagin was born in Fort Worth on January 25, 1957; he graduated |
|
from Weatherford High School and continued his education at |
|
Weatherford College and The University of Texas at Arlington; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through the years, Mr. Flanagin worked in the oil |
|
and gas sector and in the flooring industry, and he also built |
|
houses; ultimately, he concluded his career as a parts manager |
|
for a passenger rail company; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Flanagin enjoyed the |
|
love and support of his wife, the former Judy Langford, with whom |
|
he shared a rewarding marriage spanning nearly four and a half |
|
decades; he was the proud father of a son, Bill, and he |
|
experienced the joy of welcoming two grandchildren into his |
|
treasured family; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Flanagin was a longtime member of Greenwood |
|
Baptist Church; he was ordained as a deacon in 1984, and he was |
|
actively involved with the church baptistry, the men's ministry, |
|
and the Exceptional Rodeo, an annual event that was established for |
|
youth with special needs; moreover, he led Bible studies for people |
|
of all ages, most recently teaching a fourth- and fifth-grade group |
|
with his wife; the couple also served together as Mission Service |
|
Corps volunteers from 1991 through 1993; a Gideon, Mr. Flanagin |
|
spent several years distributing Gideon New Testaments to students |
|
at local school campuses; he was known for his hospitality and |
|
compassion for others, and he loved spending his leisure time on |
|
the water pursuing his passion for fishing; and |
|
WHEREAS, Although Jay Flanagin is deeply missed, memories |
|
of his devotion to his family and his faith remain to comfort and |
|
inspire those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|
Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of James Dois |
|
Flanagin and extend heartfelt condolences to the members of his |
|
family: to his wife, Judy Langford Flanagin; to his son, Bill |
|
Lynch, and his wife, Michelle; to his grandsons, Dawson and Tripp |
|
Lynch; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
|
this day, it do so in memory of Jay Flanagin. |
