R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Eva Martinez retired as Wilson County clerk in
  December 2022, drawing to a close an exemplary career that spanned
  nearly five decades; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Martinez first joined the Wilson County
  Clerk's Office as a temporary staff member in 1974; two months
  later, she accepted a full-time position, and she was a deputy clerk
  for four years before her promotion to chief deputy clerk; in 1988,
  when the previous county clerk retired, she was appointed to the
  post, and she subsequently won a special election to fill her
  predecessor's unexpired term; and
         WHEREAS, In 1990, Mrs. Martinez was elected to her first full
  term as county clerk, and she was repeatedly returned to office in
  the years that followed, ultimately serving in that capacity for
  more than three decades; over the course of her tenure, she carried
  out her duties with distinction, and under her leadership the
  county clerk's office modernized its services by making records
  available online and preserving documents dating back to 1860 in
  scanned digital archives; and
         WHEREAS, Raised in Floresville, Mrs. Martinez attended
  Sacred Heart Catholic School and Floresville High School; during
  her youth, she assisted her family in harvesting crops in locations
  across the country during the summer months, and she was strongly
  influenced by her late father, Nick Cardenas Silva Jr., who
  stressed the importance of education and hard work; in all her
  endeavors, she enjoys the love and support of a fine family that
  includes her husband of 40 years, B. R., her son, Matthew, and her
  mother, Cruz; in retirement, she plans to travel extensively, and
  she has been appointed to the board of San Antonio-based Catholic
  Life Insurance; and
         WHEREAS, With her dedication, professionalism, and
  commitment to excellence, Eva Martinez earned the respect and
  admiration of her colleagues and fellow citizens alike, and she may
  indeed reflect with pride on a job well done as she begins the next
  exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature
  hereby congratulate Eva Martinez on her retirement as Wilson County
  clerk and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Martinez as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas Senate.
