SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 524
         WHEREAS, Goodwill Industries of Dallas is celebrating its
  100th anniversary in 2023, providing a fitting opportunity to
  recognize the organization for its myriad contributions to the
  North Texas region; and
 
         WHEREAS, The inaugural Goodwill organization in Texas was
  established in 1923 in Dallas when a group of women from the
  Southern Methodist Church held a clothing drive as a fundraising
  project; the project became a successful operation, and it was
  later named Goodwill Industries of Dallas; executive director
  Gerald Clore envisioned the expansion of Goodwill across the Lone
  Star State, and the Goodwill Industries of San Antonio and
  Houston opened their doors in 1945; today, Goodwill encompasses
  more than 140 locations in Texas and is part of an international
  network; and
 
         WHEREAS, The Dallas Goodwill's donated goods program
  provides employment by offering work through the recycling and
  reselling of material donations in stores, while keeping
  millions of pounds of reusable items out of landfills; every
  dollar that is generated from its retail stores is invested back
  into creating employment opportunities for individuals with
  disabilities and disadvantaging conditions; and
 
         WHEREAS, The Dallas Goodwill's workforce development
  program provides assessments, education, coaching, and career
  placement for North Texans; moreover, the organization offers
  job training and employment for people from all walks of life,
  including the working poor and the underemployed, formerly
  incarcerated individuals who are reentering the workforce, and
  those who haven't earned a GED or the high school equivalency;
  Dallas Goodwill's day habilitation services utilizes an
  interactive classroom setting to support adults with
  developmental disabilities and to help them gain academic,
  living, social, and basic money management skills; and
 
         WHEREAS, For a century, Goodwill Industries of Dallas has
  played an important role in the North Texas community, changing
  lives through the power of meaningful work and equipping people
  with the tools they need to reach their full potential as engaged
  and productive members of society; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
  Legislature, hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of
  Goodwill Industries of Dallas and extend to all those associated
  with the organization sincere best wishes for the future; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
  prepared for Goodwill Industries of Dallas as an expression of
  high regard from the Texas Senate.
