SENATE RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
recognize Karen McCormick Zachary, who is retiring after a |
|
distinguished 37-year career with the Dallas Independent School |
|
District; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of New Orleans, Karen received her |
|
bachelor's degree in elementary education and teaching from |
|
Prairie View A&M University in 1984; she was hired as an |
|
elementary school teacher at L.P. Cowart Elementary School in |
|
1986, marking the beginning of her long and impressive career |
|
with the Dallas Independent School District; and |
|
WHEREAS, Karen has devoted her energy to the education of |
|
children for almost four decades; she began her career as an |
|
elementary school counselor at Birdie Alexander Elementary |
|
School and Umphrey Lee Elementary School after earning a master's |
|
degree in counseling education from Texas A&M |
|
University-Commerce in 1992; her commitment to supporting and |
|
guiding young students toward achieving their full potential has |
|
been a positive influence on the lives of countless individuals; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, A dedicated and resourceful counselor, Karen has |
|
greatly assisted her students and fellow educators with state |
|
testing preparation, child advocacy resourcing, and |
|
extracurricular activities such as Destination Imagination and |
|
track and basketball programs; she was recognized as the |
|
Outstanding Elementary School Counselor of the Southwest |
|
Community in 2009 and as the Dallas Independent School District |
|
Counselor of the Year in 2022; and |
|
WHEREAS, Karen's stewardship and generosity extends |
|
outside of the school district, and she is an active member of |
|
Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Duncanville and the Alpha Kappa |
|
Alpha Sorority, where she has served in many leadership roles; |
|
she has been an outstanding and trusted mentor, educator, and |
|
advisor to all of her students, and she can reflect with pride on |
|
her distinguished service in the Dallas Independent School |
|
District; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|
Legislature, hereby commend Karen McCormick Zachary on her |
|
exceptional career and her many contributions to public |
|
education and to the Dallas community and extend to her best |
|
wishes for the retirement years ahead; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
