SENATE RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Karen McCormick Zachary, who is retiring after a
  distinguished 37-year career with the Dallas Independent School
  District; and
         WHEREAS, A native of New Orleans, Karen received her
  bachelor's degree in elementary education and teaching from
  Prairie View A&M University in 1984; she was hired as an
  elementary school teacher at L.P. Cowart Elementary School in
  1986, marking the beginning of her long and impressive career
  with the Dallas Independent School District; and
         WHEREAS, Karen has devoted her energy to the education of
  children for almost four decades; she began her career as an
  elementary school counselor at Birdie Alexander Elementary
  School and Umphrey Lee Elementary School after earning a master's
  degree in counseling education from Texas A&M
  University-Commerce in 1992; her commitment to supporting and
  guiding young students toward achieving their full potential has
  been a positive influence on the lives of countless individuals;
  and
         WHEREAS, A dedicated and resourceful counselor, Karen has
  greatly assisted her students and fellow educators with state
  testing preparation, child advocacy resourcing, and
  extracurricular activities such as Destination Imagination and
  track and basketball programs; she was recognized as the
  Outstanding Elementary School Counselor of the Southwest
  Community in 2009 and as the Dallas Independent School District
  Counselor of the Year in 2022; and
         WHEREAS, Karen's stewardship and generosity extends
  outside of the school district, and she is an active member of
  Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Duncanville and the Alpha Kappa
  Alpha Sorority, where she has served in many leadership roles;
  she has been an outstanding and trusted mentor, educator, and
  advisor to all of her students, and she can reflect with pride on
  her distinguished service in the Dallas Independent School
  District; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
  Legislature, hereby commend Karen McCormick Zachary on her
  exceptional career and her many contributions to public
  education and to the Dallas community and extend to her best
  wishes for the retirement years ahead; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
