SENATE RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize New Hope Baptist Church of Dallas on its 150th
  anniversary, which is being celebrated July 23, 2023; and
         WHEREAS, This historic church traces its roots to its
  congregation's first gathering on July 23, 1873; the oldest
  African American church in Dallas, New Hope Baptist Church has a
  rich history of community service and benefaction, and the
  congregation worships in an atmosphere filled with light, love,
  and fellowship; and
         WHEREAS, Over the years, New Hope Baptist Church has
  ministered faithfully to the temporal and spiritual needs of
  countless people, including many civic leaders; and
         WHEREAS, Under the guidance and wise stewardship of its
  pastors and the outstanding leadership of its current senior
  pastor, the Reverend Dr. Damien N. Williams, the church has
  continued to grow and to play a vital role in the life of the
  Dallas community; and
         WHEREAS, New Hope Baptist Church has become an invaluable
  source of strength for its members during times of hardship and
  bereavement, and the congregation has shared in many
  celebrations during times of abundance and joy; and
         WHEREAS, The celebration of its 150th anniversary is an
  expression of the church's enduring commitment to its mission of
  providing enlightenment and hope to its congregation; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th
  Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the clergy and members
  of the congregation of New Hope Baptist Church on the joyous
  occasion of its 150th anniversary; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the church as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
