SENATE RESOLUTION
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize New Hope Baptist Church of Dallas on its 150th |
|
|
anniversary, which is being celebrated July 23, 2023; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This historic church traces its roots to its |
|
|
congregation's first gathering on July 23, 1873; the oldest |
|
|
African American church in Dallas, New Hope Baptist Church has a |
|
|
rich history of community service and benefaction, and the |
|
|
congregation worships in an atmosphere filled with light, love, |
|
|
and fellowship; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Over the years, New Hope Baptist Church has |
|
|
ministered faithfully to the temporal and spiritual needs of |
|
|
countless people, including many civic leaders; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Under the guidance and wise stewardship of its |
|
|
pastors and the outstanding leadership of its current senior |
|
|
pastor, the Reverend Dr. Damien N. Williams, the church has |
|
|
continued to grow and to play a vital role in the life of the |
|
|
Dallas community; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, New Hope Baptist Church has become an invaluable |
|
|
source of strength for its members during times of hardship and |
|
|
bereavement, and the congregation has shared in many |
|
|
celebrations during times of abundance and joy; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The celebration of its 150th anniversary is an |
|
|
expression of the church's enduring commitment to its mission of |
|
|
providing enlightenment and hope to its congregation; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the clergy and members |
|
|
of the congregation of New Hope Baptist Church on the joyous |
|
|
occasion of its 150th anniversary; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
the church as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
