SENATE RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
commemorates the life of Mary "Sue" Cunningham Johnston, who died |
|
December 14, 2022, at the age of 77; and |
|
WHEREAS, Sue Cunningham was born on June 13, 1945, in San |
|
Antonio; a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she was a |
|
treasured member of the San Antonio community; and |
|
WHEREAS, While attending The University of Texas at |
|
Austin, Sue met the love of her life, Wayne Johnston; they were |
|
married on November 7, 1968, in Baumholder, Germany, where Wayne |
|
was stationed as a member of the United States Army; after |
|
returning to Texas, they moved to Lubbock, where Sue received her |
|
master's degree in education from Texas Tech University and where |
|
their daughter, Jamie Lynn, and their son, Bryson, were born; and |
|
WHEREAS, A passionate educator, Sue taught at Slaton |
|
Elementary School in Lubbock, and after the family moved to San |
|
Antonio, she taught at Clear Spring Elementary School; she |
|
retired from teaching in 1985 to become a travel agent, and she |
|
and Wayne took their children on numerous adventures around the |
|
United States, Europe, and Central America; and |
|
WHEREAS, Sue and Wayne shared 54 years of marriage, and |
|
they raised their two children by loving example; Sue cherished |
|
her grandsons, Benton and Jack, and enthusiastically supported |
|
them in their sports events and other activities; Sue prided |
|
herself on creating a warm and welcoming home, and she was |
|
renowned for her delightful holiday decor, baking, art projects, |
|
and the atmosphere of care and comfort she created for everyone |
|
who came to visit; and |
|
WHEREAS, A woman of deep faith, kindness, and compassion, |
|
Sue gave generously to others, and her enthusiasm for living each |
|
day to the fullest was a source of inspiration to others; she |
|
leaves behind memories that will be dearly treasured by her many |
|
loved ones and by all who were privileged to know her and to share |
|
in her life; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
family of Mary "Sue" Cunningham Johnston; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Sue Johnston. |
