SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 725
|
|
|
WHEREAS, For nearly three decades, retired Command |
|
|
Sergeant Major Dr. Evelyn Hollis served her country with great |
|
|
distinction as a member of the U.S. Army, and the observance of |
|
|
Women Veterans Day 2023 provides a fitting opportunity to pay |
|
|
tribute to her outstanding military career; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Hollis joined the U.S. Army in 1979 as an |
|
|
administrative assistant, and she went on to become the first |
|
|
African American woman in army history to serve as a command |
|
|
sergeant major for a combat arms unit; her overseas assignments |
|
|
included tours in Germany and operational deployments to |
|
|
Southwest Asia and Iraq; she has worked as a military analyst for |
|
|
the Air Defense Artillery School and as a senior technical |
|
|
trainer for the Command Post of the Future; currently, she |
|
|
teaches at Park University and serves as an honorary sergeant |
|
|
major with the 1st Air Defense Artillery Regiment; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This esteemed veteran has received numerous |
|
|
honors, including the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, and |
|
|
various foreign and service awards, and she was inducted into the |
|
|
U.S. Army Women's Foundation Hall of Fame; she holds a master's |
|
|
degree in human resource development and management as well as a |
|
|
doctorate in management; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, During her years in uniform, Evelyn Hollis upheld |
|
|
the highest ideals of our nation's armed forces, demonstrating |
|
|
exemplary bravery, dedication, and integrity, and her fellow |
|
|
citizens owe her a lasting debt of gratitude; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 88th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) |
|
|
Dr. Evelyn Hollis for her military service on the occasion of |
|
|
Women Veterans Day 2023 and extend to her sincere best wishes for |
|
|
the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Dr. Evelyn Hollis as |
|
|
an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
