R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, For nearly three decades, retired Command Sergeant |
|
|
Major Dr. Evelyn Hollis served her country with great distinction |
|
|
as a member of the U.S. Army, and the observance of Women Veterans |
|
|
Day 2023 provides a fitting opportunity to pay tribute to her |
|
|
outstanding military career; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Hollis joined the U.S. Army in 1979 as an |
|
|
administrative assistant, and she went on to become the first |
|
|
African American woman in army history to serve as a command |
|
|
sergeant major for a combat arms unit; her overseas assignments |
|
|
included tours in Germany and operational deployments to Southwest |
|
|
Asia and Iraq; she has worked as a military analyst for the Air |
|
|
Defense Artillery School and as a senior technical trainer for the |
|
|
Command Post of the Future; currently, she teaches at Park |
|
|
University and serves as an honorary sergeant major with the 1st Air |
|
|
Defense Artillery Regiment; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This esteemed veteran has received numerous honors, |
|
|
including the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, and various |
|
|
foreign and service awards, and she was inducted into the U.S. Army |
|
|
Women's Foundation Hall of Fame; she holds a master's degree in |
|
|
human resource development and management as well as a doctorate in |
|
|
management; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, During her years in uniform, Evelyn Hollis upheld |
|
|
the highest ideals of our nation's armed forces, demonstrating |
|
|
exemplary bravery, dedication, and integrity, and her fellow |
|
|
citizens owe her a lasting debt of gratitude; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature |
|
|
hereby commend Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Dr. Evelyn Hollis for |
|
|
her military service on the occasion of Women Veterans Day 2023 and |
|
|
extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Dr. Evelyn Hollis as an |
|
|
expression of high regard by the Texas Senate. |
