R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, For nearly three decades, retired Command Sergeant
  Major Dr. Evelyn Hollis served her country with great distinction
  as a member of the U.S. Army, and the observance of Women Veterans
  Day 2023 provides a fitting opportunity to pay tribute to her
  outstanding military career; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Hollis joined the U.S. Army in 1979 as an
  administrative assistant, and she went on to become the first
  African American woman in army history to serve as a command
  sergeant major for a combat arms unit; her overseas assignments
  included tours in Germany and operational deployments to Southwest
  Asia and Iraq; she has worked as a military analyst for the Air
  Defense Artillery School and as a senior technical trainer for the
  Command Post of the Future; currently, she teaches at Park
  University and serves as an honorary sergeant major with the 1st Air
  Defense Artillery Regiment; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed veteran has received numerous honors,
  including the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, and various
  foreign and service awards, and she was inducted into the U.S. Army
  Women's Foundation Hall of Fame; she holds a master's degree in
  human resource development and management as well as a doctorate in
  management; and
         WHEREAS, During her years in uniform, Evelyn Hollis upheld
  the highest ideals of our nation's armed forces, demonstrating
  exemplary bravery, dedication, and integrity, and her fellow
  citizens owe her a lasting debt of gratitude; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature
  hereby commend Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Dr. Evelyn Hollis for
  her military service on the occasion of Women Veterans Day 2023 and
  extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Dr. Evelyn Hollis as an
  expression of high regard by the Texas Senate.
