R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Athletes from the El Paso Special Needs Athletic |
|
|
Group 915 Stars achieved great distinction with their exceptional |
|
|
performances in the soccer competition and individual events at the |
|
|
Special Olympics Texas 2023 Summer Games, held in San Antonio from |
|
|
May 18 to 21; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Group 915 Stars offer individuals with special |
|
|
needs who are out of the school system the opportunity to continue |
|
|
playing sports within the Special Olympics framework; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Joining other talented competitors from across |
|
|
Texas, a Group 915 Stars soccer team finished at the top of the |
|
|
Group A standings to claim the gold medal and the No. 1 ranking in |
|
|
the state; in addition, a second Stars soccer squad earned first |
|
|
place in Group D, and two athletes collected medals in individual |
|
|
events; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, With their fine showing at the 2023 Summer Games, |
|
|
the members of the Group 915 Stars have become a source of great |
|
|
pride to their families and to their community, and they are indeed |
|
|
deserving of recognition for the skill and dedication they have |
|
|
demonstrated; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 88th Texas Legislature |
|
|
hereby congratulate the El Paso Special Needs Athletic Group 915 |
|
|
Stars on their medal-winning performances in soccer and other |
|
|
competitions at the Special Olympics Texas 2023 Summer Games and |
|
|
extend to the athletes and coaches sincere best wishes for |
|
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the Group 915 Stars as an expression of high regard by |
|
|
the Texas Senate. |
