Honorable Bryan Hughes, Chair, Senate Committee on State Affairs
FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
SB220 by Bettencourt (relating to the enforcement of laws relating to elections.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Election Code to require the Secretary of State (SOS) to appoint a state election marshal to investigate violations of the code. The position would be responsible for appointing election marshals in each Department of Public Safety region. It is presumed that the additional duties the bill would require of the SOS could be absorbed with existing resources.
According to the Department of Public Safety, the bill would have no significant fiscal impact on the agency.
Local Government Impact
The fiscal implications of the bill cannot be determined at this time because the cost of any local election marshals cannot be determined.
