FISCAL NOTE, 88TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 12, 2023

TO:
Honorable Robert Nichols, Chair, Senate Committee on Transportation

FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1023 by Nichols (Relating to the establishment and posting of the maximum loads permitted on certain bridges.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to authorize the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), in accordance with federal law, to post a maximum load post sign for a bridge under the jurisdiction of a county or municipality if TxDOT determines that the bridge qualifies for a lower load rating under federal regulations.

Based on the information provided by TxDOT, it is assumed any costs or duties associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within the agency's existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
