Honorable Charles Schwertner, Chair, Senate Committee on Business & Commerce
FROM:
Jerry McGinty, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
SB1659 by Schwertner (relating to the sunset review process and certain governmental entities subject to that process.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would make changes to the Sunset review schedule affecting several agencies and remove the Bandera County River Authority and Groundwater District from Sunset review. The bill would also clarify that a public member of the Sunset Advisory Commission acts on behalf of the legislature in the furtherance of the legislature's duty to provide oversight of state agencies, not just executive branch agencies, and would make the provisions of the Texas Sunset Act relating to a review applicable to a state agency not subject to abolishment in the same manner as they would to a state agency that is subject to abolishment. It is assumed that any related costs could be absorbed using existing resources.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
