A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to compensation of school district trustees. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 11.061(d), Education Code, is amended |
|
|
to read as follows: |
|
|
(d) The trustees serve without compensation, unless |
|
|
compensation of a specified amount is approved by the district. The |
|
|
trustees' compensation may not be paid from state or federal funds. |
|
|
Notwithstanding this subsection, a person may not receive |
|
|
compensation for serving as a trustee if the person: |
|
|
(1) holds an office other than the position of trustee |
|
|
that is considered a civil office of emolument under Section 40, |
|
|
Article XVI, Texas Constitution; or |
|
|
(2) receives compensation for other services directly |
|
|
or indirectly from the state. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
