A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the applicability of prohibitions on municipal or |
|
|
county regulations on the rental or leasing of housing |
|
|
accommodations. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 250.007(b), Local Government Code, is |
|
|
amended to read as follows: |
|
|
(b) This section does not affect an ordinance or regulation |
|
|
that prohibits the refusal to lease or rent a housing accommodation |
|
|
to: |
|
|
(1) a military veteran because of the veteran's lawful |
|
|
source of income to pay rent; |
|
|
(2) a person who is 62 years of age or older because of |
|
|
the person's lawful source of income to pay rent; or |
|
|
(3) a person who has a disability, as defined by the |
|
|
Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (42 U.S.C. Section 12101 et |
|
|
seq.), because of the person's lawful source of income to pay rent. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
