A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT
|
|
|
related to making the Texas Insurance Commissioner an elected |
|
|
office. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

|
SECTION 1. Sec. Sec. 31.022. of the Texas Insurance Code is |
|
|
amended as follows: |
|
|
APPOINTMENT; TERM. (a) The commissioner is elected for a |
|
|
term of four years.The governor, with the advice and consent of |
|
|
the senate, shall appoint the commissioner. The commissioner |
|
|
serves a four-year term that coincides with the Gubernatorial |
|
|
election. |
|
|
(b) The governor shall appoint the commissioner without |
|
|
regard to the race, color, disability, sex, religion, age, or |
|
|
national origin of the appointee. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
