A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the establishment of a grant program to provide |
|
|
training to public school educators and administrators related to |
|
|
teaching historically underserved students. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 22, Education Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 22.905 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 22.905. GRANT PROGRAM FOR TRAINING RELATED TO TEACHING |
|
|
HISTORICALLY UNDERSERVED STUDENTS. (a) The commissioner shall |
|
|
establish and administer a program to award grants to school |
|
|
districts and open-enrollment charter schools to provide training |
|
|
to educators and administrators related to best practices for |
|
|
teaching historically underserved students. |
|
|
(b) A school district or open-enrollment charter school may |
|
|
use funds awarded under the grant program only to provide training |
|
|
to educators and administrators related to best practices for |
|
|
teaching historically underserved students. |
|
|
(c) The commissioner shall adopt rules necessary to |
|
|
implement this section, including rules that establish: |
|
|
(1) eligibility criteria for grant applicants; |
|
|
(2) grant application procedures; and |
|
|
(3) guidelines relating to grant amounts. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026 |
|
|
school year. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
