CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, Kathy Shannon retired as executive director of the
  Permian Basin Petroleum Museum in Midland on October 1, 2023,
  drawing to a close many years of outstanding service; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Shannon joined the Petroleum Museum as director
  of education in 1995, and in that role, she oversaw the addition of
  the organization's transportation wing, which uses Chaparral race
  cars to educate visitors on the scientific principles of
  aerodynamics and physics; in November 2004, she assumed her
  position as executive director; over the course of a tenure
  spanning nearly two decades, the museum opened an educational hall
  and a mineral gallery highlighting mineral specimens from across
  the globe, underwent an $18 million renovation of its petroleum
  exhibits, and launched its state-of-the-art STEAM education
  center; and
         WHEREAS, Over the years, Ms. Shannon has contributed to her
  profession as board president of the Texas Association of Museums
  from 2011 to 2012 and as a member of the Permian Basin Museum
  Association; in 2016, she was presented with the TAM President's
  Award; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Shannon has also given back to the greater
  community by serving on the board of the Trinity School of Midland
  and by collaborating with the Texas Education Agency on revising
  the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills test through the Texas
  Energy Council; and
         WHEREAS, The Petroleum Museum has benefited immeasurably
  from Kathy Shannon's leadership and her unwavering commitment to
  the institution's mission, and she may indeed reflect with pride on
  all that she has accomplished; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby congratulate Kathy Shannon on her retirement from the
  Permian Basin Petroleum Museum and extend to her sincere best
  wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Shannon as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
