CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, Stewart Doreen retired as editor of the Midland
  Reporter-Telegram at the end of 2023, following a noteworthy
  29-year career with the newspaper; and
         WHEREAS, In January 1995, Mr. Doreen joined the
  Reporter-Telegram and covered a Midland High School basketball game
  as his first assignment; he went on to write thousands of articles,
  reporting on a wide range of matters, from sports to government and
  the energy industry; in covering city hall, he strove to be a
  watchdog for the interests of his fellow citizens; and
         WHEREAS, After serving as managing editor, he was named
  editor of the paper and guided it skillfully through today's
  rapidly evolving media environment; its print and online
  circulation reached an eight-year high under his leadership, with
  hundreds of thousands of visits to its mrt.com website every month;
  and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Doreen has been an ardent champion of Midland,
  raising awareness of its exceptional people, thriving business
  sector, and vibrant nonprofit and educational organizations; in
  recognition of his contributions, the mayor proclaimed
  December 21, 2023, as Stewart Doreen Day; and
         WHEREAS, Since retiring from the paper, Mr. Doreen has served
  as strategic communications officer for the City of Midland, and he
  has brought a wealth of experience and deep knowledge to his
  position; as he continues to take on the exciting challenges of his
  new role, he may indeed reflect with pride on his many
  accomplishments to date; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 89th Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby congratulate Stewart Doreen on his retirement as editor of
  the Midland Reporter-Telegram and extend to him sincere best wishes
  for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Doreen as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives and Senate.
