A JOINT RESOLUTION
|
|
|
proposing a constitutional amendment to provide a person convicted |
|
|
of a felony with the right to vote. |
|
|
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 1(a), Article VI, Texas Constitution, is |
|
|
amended to read as follows: |
|
|
(a) The following classes of persons shall not be allowed to |
|
|
vote in this State: |
|
|
(1) persons under 18 years of age; and |
|
|
(2) persons who have been determined mentally |
|
|
incompetent by a court, subject to such exceptions as the |
|
|
Legislature may make[; and |
|
|
[(3) persons convicted of any felony, subject to such |
|
|
exceptions as the Legislature may make]. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This proposed constitutional amendment shall be |
|
|
submitted to the voters at an election to be held November 4, 2025. |
|
|
The ballot shall be printed to permit voting for or against the |
|
|
proposition: "The constitutional amendment to provide a person |
|
|
convicted of a felony with the right to vote." |
