R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The National Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington is |
|
|
opening on March 25, 2025, providing a welcome opportunity to |
|
|
recognize those outstanding Texans who have served our nation with |
|
|
distinction; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The highest military decoration of the United States |
|
|
Armed Forces, the Medal of Honor is awarded to American soldiers, |
|
|
sailors, marines, airmen, guardians, and coast guardsmen who have |
|
|
distinguished themselves by acts of valor, conspicuous gallantry, |
|
|
and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of |
|
|
duty; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Established under President Lincoln during the |
|
|
Civil War, the Medal of Honor was first awarded more than 160 years |
|
|
ago on March 25, 1863; since that time, an estimated 40 million men |
|
|
and women have served in the United States Armed Forces, and fewer |
|
|
than 4,000 have received this prestigious accolade; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Today, there are 61 living recipients of the Medal |
|
|
of Honor across the United States, and the nine recipients who call |
|
|
Texas home are Patrick Brady, Florent Groberg, Sal Giunta, Michael |
|
|
Thornton, Jose Rodela, Ty Carter, James Fleming, Dakota Meyer, and |
|
|
Robert O'Malley; these loyal patriots served their country in times |
|
|
of need, and they have each demonstrated extraordinary bravery and |
|
|
a steadfast commitment to defending our nation; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The opening of the National Medal of Honor Museum in |
|
|
Arlington coincides with National Medal of Honor Day; visitors to |
|
|
the museum will have the opportunity to learn about the history and |
|
|
significance of the award while gaining insight into the |
|
|
achievements of recipients; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Medal of Honor recipients have set an exceptional |
|
|
example of courage and selfless service, and the National Medal of |
|
|
Honor Museum is a fitting tribute to their inspiring legacy; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the opening of the National Medal of |
|
|
Honor Museum in Arlington and extend to the Medal of Honor |
|
|
recipients in Texas sincere gratitude for their heroic service; |
|
|
and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the National Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington as an |
|
|
expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
