R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The observance of Black Lawyers & Students Day at |
|
|
the State Capitol on April 8, 2025, provides a fitting opportunity |
|
|
to honor The Barbara Jordan Leadership Institute; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Founded and led by Black women, BJLI is a |
|
|
nonpartisan organization that empowers current and future |
|
|
generations of Black civic leaders and professionals; through voter |
|
|
education, advocacy, and leadership development, the group equips |
|
|
individuals with the tools they need to make a positive difference |
|
|
in their communities; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Demonstrating a steadfast commitment to the values |
|
|
of fairness and justice, BJLI offers a variety of mentorship, |
|
|
career development, and leadership programs to help promote |
|
|
diversity and community engagement; the organization also works to |
|
|
uplift and amplify the voices of citizens as well as advance health |
|
|
equity and economic justice; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, BJLI has played an instrumental role in expanding |
|
|
opportunities for Black Americans who seek to build a brighter |
|
|
future for themselves and their communities, and it is a pleasure to |
|
|
join in honoring the organization for its many contributions; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby recognize April 8, 2025, as Black Lawyers & |
|
|
Students Day at the State Capitol and commend all those associated |
|
|
with The Barbara Jordan Leadership Institute for their important |
|
|
work; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for BJLI as an expression of high regard by the Texas House |
|
|
of Representatives. |
