SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 296
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Saint Edward's University in honor of the recent grand |
|
|
opening of the School of Health Sciences on January 28, 2025; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The initial phase of construction for the School |
|
|
of Health Sciences was completed in the summer of 2024, and the |
|
|
school welcomed its first nursing students the following fall |
|
|
semester; the introduction of the nursing program will be |
|
|
succeeded by the addition of occupational therapy, physician |
|
|
assistant studies, and physical therapy programs as well as |
|
|
master's and doctoral nursing degree programs; the university |
|
|
also offers a health systems and administration degree for |
|
|
professionals pursuing nonclinical health care positions; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The expansion of course offerings in health |
|
|
science is part of the school's Strategic Plan 2027, which aims |
|
|
to help address Austin's ongoing nursing shortage in addition to |
|
|
providing students with high-quality education; in furtherance |
|
|
of this goal, the university has established partnerships with |
|
|
health care and community organizations in order to serve the |
|
|
needs of the Central Texas area; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The new nursing program facilities feature |
|
|
multiple simulation laboratories equipped with high-fidelity |
|
|
mannequins that allow students to train in varying patient care |
|
|
scenarios; students also benefit from educational experience |
|
|
gained in the physical wellness and clinical skills laboratories |
|
|
and the women-childcare-family suite; the program is guided by |
|
|
the skilled leadership of its founding director, Dr. Donna Beuk, |
|
|
who is also serving as interim dean of the School of Health |
|
|
Sciences; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The establishment of the Saint Edward's |
|
|
University nursing program demonstrates the institution's |
|
|
commitment to preparing future health care professionals for |
|
|
careers in this vital field, and it is indeed fitting to |
|
|
recognize the school as it embarks on this exciting new chapter; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 89th |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commemorate the establishment of the nursing |
|
|
program and the School of Health Sciences at Saint Edward's |
|
|
University and extend to all who have contributed to this |
|
|
exemplary effort best wishes for much future success; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
the school as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
