R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Builders of Hope in Dallas has significantly |
|
advanced the availability of stable, affordable housing in the |
|
city; and |
|
WHEREAS, The only certified Community Housing Development |
|
Organization in the city of Dallas and in Dallas County, Builders of |
|
Hope was founded in 1998 with the goal of revitalizing West Dallas; |
|
today, its target areas also include Pleasant Grove, South Dallas, |
|
and southern Dallas; its projects are designed not only to provide |
|
shelter but also to address systemic economic barriers and to |
|
promote social mobility through homeownership; and |
|
WHEREAS, Since its inception, Builders of Hope has |
|
constructed more than 500 high-quality, affordable homes, adding |
|
over $60 million in single-family real estate value to the local tax |
|
base and revitalizing historically underserved neighborhoods |
|
across Dallas; these efforts have supported the creation of more |
|
than 1,500 construction jobs and generated an estimated $35 million |
|
in wealth for low- to moderate-income families; through its |
|
innovative financing model, the organization helps homeowners |
|
build equity from the outset, with the average family receiving |
|
approximately $70,000 in equity at closing; and |
|
WHEREAS, BOH employs three strategies for community |
|
enrichment; it aims to revitalize areas with land values that have |
|
been suppressed due to a lack of public investment, to stabilize |
|
neighborhoods that are undergoing rapid gentrification, and to |
|
diversify mixed-income housing in areas where affordable options |
|
are limited or nonexistent; in 2022, the organization ventured into |
|
multifamily rental housing to help address the growing shortage, |
|
and it went on to receive unanimous approval for its $7.4 million |
|
Trinity West Villas development from the Dallas City Council; it |
|
completed its West Dallas single-family project in 2025, offering |
|
19 affordable homes and supporting owners with more than 150 hours |
|
of homebuyer education and $760,000 of down payment assistance; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through its investments in housing, Builders of Hope |
|
is empowering Dallas residents to attain greater security and |
|
generational wealth, and in so doing, it is helping to make the |
|
wider community stronger and more vibrant; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 89th Texas Legislature |
|
hereby honor Builders of Hope for its contributions to affordable |
|
housing in Dallas and extend to all those associated with the |
|
organization sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for BOH as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
Senate. |
