Current law requires municipalities and special purpose districts, under certain conditions, to provide legal counsel without cost to peace officers, firefighters, or emergency medical services personnel employed by the entity to defend the employee against civil suits. House Bill 1016 amends the Local Government Code to add school districts to the entities required to provide such legal counsel.
