Under previous law the campaign treasurer appointment of an inactive candidate or political committee could be terminated only by the Texas Ethics Commission. House Bill 1863 amends the Election Code to authorize the governing body of a political subdivision to adopt a process by which the political subdivision's clerk or secretary may terminate a campaign treasurer appointment that must be filed with that clerk or secretary. The governing body must consider the proposed termination in a regularly scheduled open meeting before it can be implemented.
