            House Bill 2053 amends the Texas Workers' Compensation Act, Labor Code, to include investigations relating to alleged offenses under the act, with particular emphasis on offenses of fraudulently obtaining or denying benefits or obtaining workers' compensation insurance coverage, among the investigations conducted by the investigation unit of the Texas Department of Insurance division of workers' compensation. The bill updates the pecuniary thresholds used to determine the penalty grade of such offenses and grants subpoena authority to the commissioner of workers' compensation with respect to an investigation of such offenses.
