            House Bill 3083 amends the Education Code to authorize the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to allocate any unused funds from the student loan repayment assistance program for certain mental health professionals to award repayment assistance grants to an eligible mental health professional. The bill includes a licensed chemical dependency counselor among those eligible professionals and caps the total amount of repayment assistance from the state that a licensed chemical dependency counselor who has received an associate degree related to chemical dependency counseling or behavioral science may receive. The bill establishes the coordinating board's duty to seek and maximize matching federal matching funds.
